Course Outline

Identify common gem materials confidently, explain the properties and uses of certain gem materials and apply your knowledge in real world settings
Handle rough, cut and set gem materials, such as diamond, sapphire, ruby and emerald, as well as organics and a range of treated and imitation gem materials
Through practical training, you will know how to use basic gemmological equipment and report accurately on the various observations and results of tests conducted on gemological specimens
Compare and contrast the features and properties of gem materials, treatments and synthetics in order to distinguish between gemstones

Requirements

  • Our courses are delivered through the online learning management system, Zoom meeting and on Rite Aid gemology school campus.
  • Each week students receive lecture material in the form of video, and reading assignment.
  • Students participate in weekly discussions and activities which provide practical application of their skills and offers peer interaction and instructor feedback.
  • Progress is documented in weekly quizzes and a comprehensive final examination at the completion of each 4-week course.
